Job openings now available on television in Georgia Mountains region

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that Georgia JobTV, a unique service of the Georgia Department of Labor that allows television viewers to search for jobs and further their careers from the convenience of their homes, is now available in eight counties in the Georgia Mountains region.

Georgia JobTV is seen over Channel 4 on Windstream Cable Television, as a service of the Lumpkin County Development Authority and Windstream. It is available Monday through Friday in Lumpkin, Dawson and White counties from midnight-1 a.m. and 5-8 a.m., Banks and Habersham counties from midnight-1 a.m. and 5-6 a.m., and Towns and Union counties, as well as Clay County, N.C., from midnight-1 a.m. and 6-7 a.m.

"We're excited about partnering with the Lumpkin County Development Authority and Windstream to provide this valuable, state-of-the-art service to job seekers and employers in the Georgia Mountains region," said Commissioner Thurmond. "JobTV is a great example of how the Georgia Department of Labor is using technology to better serve Georgians. It's especially important and timely that Job TV be available in this area because of recent layoffs and plant closings. JobTV will enhance the wide variety of employment services our career centers have long provided in this region."

Bruce Abraham, executive director, Lumpkin County Development Authority, said, "JobTV is all about connecting people with opportunities to work and earn a living. It's one more tool for economic development in Lumpkin County and throughout the region. We're pleased to be teaming up with the Georgia Department of Labor and Windstream to make this possible."

Windstream Cable Television Area Manager Pam Hendrix said, "The communities of northeast Georgia and western North Carolina are the focus of Windstream Channel 4. We are always looking for local programming that impacts the lives of the people we serve. And, we feel JobTV is a perfect fit. We are pleased for this opportunity for Windstream to help 'grow places'."

JobTV provides 160 currently available job openings in the private and public sectors listed with the Georgia Department of Labor. The job listings are updated each weekday. Each listing includes the job title, location, salary, education and experience requirements, and a job number. Job seekers should use the job number when visiting any of the state labor department's 53 career centers to obtain additional information, or to inquire about applying for the job. Labor department staff will refer all qualified applicants to the employers for their consideration.

In addition to current job listings, Georgia JobTV provides video reports about career development and services available to job seekers and employers, as well as useful career-related tips.
The Georgia Mountains region is served by the Georgia Department of Labor's Gainesville Career Center at 2756 Atlanta Highway, Blairsville Career Center at 189 Rogers St., Habersham Area Career Center at 215 Hodges St., Suite 205 in Cornelia, and the Toccoa Career Center at 112 North Alexander Street. The operating hours are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Job openings are also available on the labor department's Website at www.dol.state.ga.us.
