Georgia's unemployment rate unchanged in March
ATLANTA The Georgia Department of Labor reported today that the state's unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.3 percent from February to March. But, the rate is up 1.2 percent over the year, from 4.1 percent in March of 2007.
The current state rate is one-tenth of one percent higher than the U.S. unadjusted rate of 5.2 percent.
While the state rate was unchanged, preliminary data from February to March show Georgia
gained 10,200 payroll jobs, an increase of two-tenths of one percent. The data includes workers
who hold more than one job. The 11 metro areas of the state and their job changes include:
Albany, up 200, or three-tenths of one percent, from 64,400 to 64,600. Athens, down 200, or two-tenths percent, from 82,900 to 82,700. Atlanta, up 8,900, or four-tenths of one percent, from 2,462,300 to 2,471,200. Augusta, up 1,100, or one-half of one percent, from 216,900 to 218,000. Columbus, down 100, or one-tenth of one percent, from 121,200 to 121,100. Dalton, up 100, or one-tenth of one percent, from 77,500 to 77,600. Gainesville, up 300, or four-tenths of one percent, from 76,900 to 77,200. Macon, up 200, or two-tenths of one percent, from 100,200 to 100,400. Savannah, up 800, or one-half of one percent, from 161,000 to 161,800. Valdosta, unchanged at 56,400. Warner Robins, up 300, or one-half of one percent, from 59,100 to 59,400.
