Kia's online job application process proves successful
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the first totally online job application process for a major employer in Georgia has been extremely successful. Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) reports that it received more than 43,000 applicants for 2,500 production jobs at its plant under construction in West Point.
"The Georgia Department of Labor is pleased to have had a significant role in partnering with Kia and the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education in recruiting the large pool of applicants needed to ensure the company will have a well-qualified work force," said Thurmond. "The fact that more than 43,000 job seekers filed applications within the 30-day recruitment period proves the viability of online applications. This process will become a standard recruiting method for other employers in the future."
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) provided Internet access at all of its 53 career centers throughout the state to ensure that all Georgians would have an opportunity to apply. The department also opened the GDOL Kia Recruitment Center at West Georgia Technical College in LaGrange for jobseekers in the area surrounding the plant. Almost 400 job seekers applied with Kia at a job fair in Columbus on Feb. 7, the last day to apply, using dozens of computers provided by the department.
