Georgia's unemployment rate unchanged in May
ATLANTA The Georgia Department of Labor reported today that the state's unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent from April to May. The state's rate was two-tenths of one percent lower than the U.S. unadjusted rate of 4.3 percent.
While the state's rate was unchanged in May, it was down four-tenths of one percent over the year, from 4.5 percent in May of 2006.
From April to May of 2007, Georgia added 14,400 payroll jobs, primarily in trade and the
service-related industries. The 14 metro areas of the state and their job changes include:
Albany, down 200, or three-tenths of one percent, from 65,600 to 65,400. Athens, up 100, or one-tenth of one percent, from 82,500 to 82,600. Atlanta, up 9,800, or four-tenths of one percent, from 2,431,900 to 2,441,700. Augusta, down 800, or four-tenths of one percent, from 218,200 to 217,400. Brunswick, up 200, or four-tenths of one percent, from 46,300 to 46,500. Columbus, up 500, or four-tenths of one percent, from 122,900 to 123,400. Dalton, up 400, or one-half of one percent, from 80,300 to 80,700. Gainesville, up 300, or four-tenths of one percent, from 74,600 to 74,900. Hinesville, up 200, or 1.1 percent, from 18,600 to 18,800. Macon, up 400, or four-tenths of one percent, from 101,900 to 102,300. Rome, up 100, or two-tenths of one percent, from 45,200 to 45,300. Savannah, up 700, or four-tenths of one percent, from 159,700 to 160,400. Valdosta, up 200, or four-tenths of one percent, from 56,700 to 56,900. Warner Robins, up 400, or seven-tenths of one percent, from 57,300 to 57,700.
