Labor department schedules career expo/job fair in Tifton
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Tifton Career Center and Tift Area Employer Committee, along with a local organization called PLIGHT, will co-sponsor its sixth annual career expo and job fair for Tift County High School students.
PLIGHT is an acronym for Proud Loving Individuals Giving a Hand to Teens. The event will be held Thursday, April 5, from 9:30-11:10 a.m. at the high school, located at One Blue Devil Way in Tifton.
Commissioner Thurmond said, "This career expo and job fair is designed to bring employers and organizations in the Tifton area together with high school students who are seeking career guidance and future employment. The students will receive cutting edge information on job search, career planning, and other valuable services designed to help them reach their full workplace potential."
The event will feature about 20 employers that will be hiring to fill current job openings. In addition, other employers will be discussing future employment opportunities with the job seekers, while other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings.
Among the employers expected to participate in the event include: Captain D's, Checkers, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Diversified Enterprises, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, First Community Bank, Georgia Forestry Commission, Shoney's, Talent Tree Staffing, Tender Care, Tift County Recreation Department, Tift Health Care, Tift Regional Medical Center, Tifton Police Department, and U. S. Army and Marine Corps.
