Georgia Department of Labor's Walt Pollock wins national recognition from American Legion for second time for serving veterans
ATLANTA Walter A. Pollock, Jr., a Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) in the Georgia Department of Labor's Columbus Career Center, has been named the American Legion's most outstanding LVER in the nation for the second consecutive year. Pollock received the award recently in Reno, Nev.
"Walt Pollock is the epitome of those who serve the employment needs of our nation's veterans," said State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. "Walt, who is a veteran himself, has forged a distinguished career at the Georgia Department of Labor assisting the men and women who've served and defended our country with services designed to give them every opportunity to succeed in the workplace."
A retired non-commissioned officer in the U. S. Army, Pollock is an eight-year veteran of the Georgia Department of Labor. He has organized numerous job fairs for veterans in the Columbus area and has served as a mentor for his colleagues who provide employment services to other veterans around the state.
Pollock said, "It's truly an honor and a pleasure to come to work each day, knowing that I will have the opportunity to work closely with those who've served in the military and help them make a successful transition to rewarding careers in the private sector. But, while I received this recognition, awards are not won in a vacuum - - it takes a team to achieve rewards, and we have a great team."
Pollock is no stranger to awards. From 2003-2006, he received the LVER of the Year Award from the American Legion in Georgia. And, he won the LVER award in Georgia from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in 2004-2005, as well as the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) LVER of the Year Award in 2005.
Other awards have come from the Georgia Chapter of the International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP). They include: the Miller Merit Award (2003), state LVER of the Year (2003-2005), and national LVER of the Year in 2005.
