Georgia Department of Labor's Walter Pollock and Ben Seger recognized for service to veterans by state VFW
ATLANTA Two veteran specialists in the Georgia Department of Labor's Columbus Career Center who provide employment-related services to other veterans have been honored by the state Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Ben Segar has been named the state's Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) specialist of the year, while Walt Pollock is the Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) of the year for large career centers throughout the state. The awards were presented recently by the Georgia Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) at the annual veterans' conference at Lake Lanier. While both specialists provide services to veterans, Seger specializes in working with veterans with disabilities.
"Walt Pollock and Ben Seger are most deserving of this recognition for their dedication to providing high-quality employment services to veterans," said State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. "Assisting the men and women who've served and defended our country with their careers is one of the most important services of the Georgia Department of Labor. I'm proud of the work Walt and Ben and their colleagues do for Georgia's veterans."
Both U.S. Army veterans, Pollock and Seger received the awards for their outstanding service to the veterans who are served by the Columbus Career Center. Those include veterans from Chattahoochee, Clay, Harris, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, and Talbot counties.
The Georgia Department of Labor employs DVOPs and LVERs who are military veterans to provide services exclusively to veterans in 53 career centers throughout the state. The services provided to veterans include: skills and interest assessments, career exploration and training guides, training referrals, resume preparation, effective job search, interviewing skills, job referral, job offer evaluation, and referrals to support services at the U.S. Veterans Administration and rehabilitation services at the Georgia Department of Labor.
