Mark Ezzell named Georgia Department of Labor's Manager of the Year
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that Mark Ezzell, manager of the Georgia Department of Labor's Cedartown Career Center, has been named the labor department's manager of the year.
"This award recognizes a manager who provides the leadership that instills our vision of providing high-quality customer service to job seekers and employers alike," said Commissioner Thurmond. "Mark Ezzell is recognized by his staff, his peers, our workforce partners, and his community as being a manager who symbolizes that kind of leadership. He certainly deserves this award."
Ezzell was nominated for the award by staff members of the Cedartown Career Center. In the nomination, they wrote that "he is without peer when it comes to integrity and knowledge of the agency and its operations and policies" and that Ezzell "is the type of manager and individual that we should all aspire to become." The award was presented recently during the annual state conference of the Georgia Employer Committee, an organization of business representatives who establish and maintain a working relationship between the employer community and the labor department. Ezzell was selected from among the department's 53 career center managers.
He is the coordinator of on-the-job activities for the Northwest Georgia Workforce Investment Area. He also serves on the Northwest Georgia Workforce Investment Board, and the local Focus on Abilities Committee, He is a member of the Haralson County Chamber of Commerce, where he serves on the Existing Industry and Entrepreneurial Friendly committee. He previously served four years on the board of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce.
Ezzell has managed the Cedartown Career Center since 2001. Prior to that, he managed the Rome Career Center for 12 years. He began his career with the labor department in 1976 as a contingency clerk in the Carrollton Career Center.
A native of Bremen, he holds a bachelor of business degree in economics and a minor in accounting from West Georgia University.
Ezzell has one daughter, Tiffany, 16.
