Open house for Georgia Department of Labor's Gainesville Career Center to be held Thursday
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that an official open house ceremony for the Georgia Department of Labor's Gainesville Career Center has been scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The new facility, which has been operational since July 27, is located at 2756 Atlanta Highway in Gainesville.
"We're pleased to be able to provide a state-of-the-art, one-stop facility for all of our employers, job seekers, and vocational rehabilitation customers in the Gainesville area," Commissioner Thurmond said. "This new career center is one of the most accessible government facilities for persons with disabilities in Georgia, and it is setting the standard for other new career centers to follow.
"I invite all residents of the Gainesville area to attend the open house, so that they can see firsthand what a fine facility we have to help with their employment needs," Commissioner Thurmond continued.
The 29,000 square-foot facility provides employment-related services for employers and job seekers, as well as user-friendly access to vocational rehabilitation customers at one site. Employment-related services include: job listings, job search workshops, unemployment insurance, labor market information, and a resource library, along with computers, printers, and fax machines. It is one of the first career centers to offer Georgia JobTV in its lobby. This unique television service provides a list of current job openings and employment-related information for job seekers and employers.
The new facility has a business center for employers, including a waiting area, two interview rooms, along with a copier and fax machine. Thirty-four computers are available for use by job seekers in a resource room. And a training room will accommodate as many as 125 job seekers in a theater-style setting.
The career center provides accommodations for an unemployment insurance tax office, as well as representatives from the Georgia Mountains Workforce Investment Board (WIB), Hall County Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS), Job Corps, Disabled American Veterans, Lanier Technical College, and staff members who speak fluent Spanish to accommodate the community's large Hispanic population.
The new career center, which serves Dawson, Forsyth, Hall, Lumpkin, and White counties, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office telephone number is (770) 5355484.
