Kings Bay Employer Committee sets up Tracy Foreman Scholarship Fund for Camden students
ATLANTA The Georgia Department of Labor's Kings Bay Employer Committee has established a scholarship endowment fund in memory of the late Tracy L. Foreman, an employer marketing representative at the Kings Bay Career Center, who died in 2003.
"Tracy Foreman was the galvanizing force behind the Kings Bay Employer Committee and was a valued and respected colleague and friend," said committee chair Staci Bowick. "These scholarships are offered in the tradition of Tracy's example and constant effort to assist others and better her organization, the employer community, and her community as a whole."
State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said, "Tracy Foreman was a committed and valued member of the Georgia Department of Labor team. The scholarship endowment fund in her memory is symbolic of Tracy's, and the department's, commitment to helping people receive the education and job training necessary to compete in a world class workforce."
Under the endowment fund, two $750 scholarships will be granted for one year each to any Camden County high school senior or student entering their freshman year at an accredited two or four-year university, college, or vocational institution. In addition to attending school, applicants must also be working part-time for a minimum of 15 hours per week. The scholarships are non-renewable and not based on financial need.
To qualify for the scholarships, applicants must submit an application, school records, tests scores, and a two-to-three page essay. The theme of the essay is how to use education and training to develop or support a new business or industry in the Kings Bay area. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the employer committee's scholarship sub-committee. The deadline for submission of all documents is Friday, April 22.
For additional information about the scholarships, or to make application, contact Faith Copeland-Pittman of the Kings Bay Career Center at (912) 673-6942, or the employer committee chair, Staci Bowick, at (912) 576-7125. The employer committee is a group of local business representatives who establish and maintain a working relationship between the employers and the career center.
The career center provides job seekers and employers with a wealth of new information and resource services, modern technology, and a customer-focused, state-of-the-art business environment. The Georgia Department of Labor has enhanced its services to customers with the development of a new and improved web site. The on-line resource gives information on the various services and programs operated by the labor department and other Georgia workforce partners. Additionally, the web site helps equip workers and new entrants into the job market with the tools and information needed to evaluate career options, prepare for work, and find the right job. It also provides employers with an abundance of workforcerelated information. The site may be accessed at www.dol.state.ga.us.
