Fifth annual FOA awards luncheon set for Oct. 1 in Bremen
ATLANTA -- The 5th annual Focus on Abilities (FOA) awards luncheon has been set for Friday, Oct. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bremen. The luncheon, which is open to the public, will honor individuals with disabilities, employers, and teachers from Haralson, Paulding and Polk counties, and the Bremen city schools.

Awards will be presented to individuals from Haralson, Paulding, and Polk counties in the following six categories: employee of the year, employer of the year, teacher of the year, student of the year, postsecondary student of the year, and outstanding service award.

Individuals with disabilities who have demonstrated outstanding performance on the job, or in school, as well as employers and teachers who have assisted them, are eligible for these awards.

Shea Cowart of Paulding County, a bi-lateral amputee and Paralympic Gold Medalist, will be the keynote speaker. She won both the 100 and 200-meter races and broke two world records in the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney, Australia.

Amanda Garland of Cartersville, a contemporary Gospel recording artist, will provide the music and entertainment.
