South Georgia's unemployment rate declines slightly in November

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor reported today that the unemployment rate in the South Georgia area for November was 3.2 percent, a decrease of one-tenth percent from a revised 3.3 percent in October. The area's jobless rate in November of 2003 was also 3.3 percent.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in Georgia for November was 4.1 percent, a decrease of onetenth percent from a revised 4.2 percent in October. The state's jobless rate in November of 2003 was also 4.1 percent.

Georgia added 9,800 payroll jobs in November, virtually all in retail trade for the holiday shopping season. But, while the overall number of jobs grew, the state experienced job losses in construction, manufacturing, and leisure and hospitality. Over the past 12 months, the state has a net gain of 39,300 jobs, a growth rate of one percent.
