Georgia's unemployment rate declines slightly in November
ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor reported today that the unemployment rate in Georgia for November was 4.1 percent, a decrease of one-tenth percent from a revised 4.2 percent in October. The state's jobless rate in November of 2003 was also 4.1 percent.
Georgia added 9,800 payroll jobs in November, virtually all in retail trade for the holiday shopping season. But, while the overall number of jobs grew, the state experienced job losses in construction, manufacturing, and leisure and hospitality. Over the past 12 months, the state has a net gain of 39,300 jobs, a growth rate of one percent.
The seven metro areas of the state and their job changes from October to November are as
follows: Albany, up 100, or two-tenths percent, from 57,300 to 57,400. Athens, up 200, or three-tenths percent, from 74,700 to 74,900. Atlanta, up 5,200, or two-tenths percent, from 2,193,700 to 2,198,900. Augusta, up 700, or three-tenths percent, from 205,300 to 206,000. Columbus, down 500, or four-tenths percent, from 117,400 to 117,900. Macon, up 400, or three-tenths percent, from 152,100 to 152,500. Savannah, up 700, or one-half percent, from 143,300 to 144,000.
