WILKERSON NAMED LABOR DEPARTMENT MANAGER OF THE YEAR
ATLANTA -- Cecil L. Wilkerson of Chatham County, manager of the Georgia Department of Labor's Savannah Career Center, has been named the department's Manager of the Year in statewide competition with other career center managers.
Wilkerson, 52, was nominated for the award by the Savannah Area Employer Committee, one of 53 throughout the state.
"This is a well-deserved honor," said Rosa Hayes, assistant
commissioner of labor for field services, "and I'm pleased that Cecil
has been recognized for the leadership he provides in our Savannah Career Center. He and his staff are committed to providing the

kinds of services necessary to build a world-class workforce for the 21st century."
A Savannah native, Wilkerson is a graduate of the now-defunct Tompkins High School in that city, the Columbia Bible College in Columbia, South Carolina, and Armstrong Atlantic State University, also in Savannah.
A 29-year veteran of the labor department, Wilkerson joined the department in 1972 as an employment interviewer in the Savannah office. He worked his way up through the ranks in that office to employment counselor, unit supervisor, and assistant manager. He has served in his present position since 1993.

of Leadership Savannah and is a member of the Coastal Workforce Investment Board (WIB), the board of directors of the Youth Futures Authority, and chair of the board of directors of the ASH Tree Youth Organization, all in Savannah.
He is married to the former Sharon Goldwire, also of Savannah. They have two children: April Wilkerson, 28, an employee of the Georgia Technological Authority in Savannah, and Bradley LeRoi, 8, a third grader at Charles Ellis Elementary School.
