ATLANTA -- -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that Solo Cup Co.'s Southeast Distribution Center in Jonesboro has been presented a Private Sector Award for its outstanding workplace safety program.
The Private Sector Award is one of the top 10 statewide awards presented annually by the Georgia Department of Labor which recognize outstanding achievement in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.
"Each year, the labor department honors the achievements of Georgia employers in workplace safety," said Gregory Wylly, left, of the Solo Cup Co. and Commissioner Thurmond. "Our employers represent Thurmond some of the best in recognizing the importance of safety and the impact it has on the health of our workers and the enterprises they serve. We all benefit from the efforts of employers to maintain a safe work environment. We congratulate the Solo Cup Co. on winning a Private Sector Award."

Georgia Department of Labor - Press Release
Earl Everett, director of the labor department's Safety Engineering Division, presented the award to Gregory Wylly, the distribution center manager, at the recent Georgia Safety, Health, and Environmental Conference in Savannah.
"Our success is a result of involving every manager and associate in putting corrective measures in place," said Wylly. "The program is working because our employees have taken active ownership of the program, policing themselves and establishing standards instead of being passive regarding safety goals."
There are approximately 4.2 million people in Georgia's civilian labor force, working for about 192,000 employers in manufacturing, construction, trade, and service-related industries.
