CORDELE POLICE WIN LABOR DEPARTMENT'S AWARD FOR WORKPLACE SAFETY
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Cordele Police Department in Crisp County has been presented a Public Sector Award for its outstanding workplace safety program.
The Public Sector Award is one of the top 10 statewide awards presented annually by the Georgia Department of Labor which recognize outstanding achievement in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.
"Each year, the labor department honors the achievements of Georgia employers in workplace safety," said Thurmond. "Our employers represent some of the best in recognizing the importance of safety and the impact it has on the health of our workers and the enterprises they serve. We all benefit from the efforts of employers to maintain a safe work environment. We congratulate the Cordele Police Department on winning a Public Sector Award."
Earl Everett, director of the labor department's Safety Engineering Division, presented the award to Cordele Police Chief Dwayne Orrick, at the recent Georgia Safety, Health, and Environmental Conference in Savannah.
"To ensure the safety and welfare of our employees, the Cordele Police Department combines the use of safety inspections/meetings, operational procedures, training, compliance inspections, and excellent safety equipment," said Chief Orrick. "However, it's our employees who successfully implement the program."
