AUSA VETERANS JOB FAIR SET FOR THURSDAY, MAY 18, AT FORT BENNING

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor and the Association of United States Army (AUSA) will co-sponsor a job fair at Fort Benning next week. The job fair is for veterans and active-duty soldiers in the Columbus area who are scheduled to be released from the military.

The job fair will be held Thursday, May 18, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Building 4, Infantry Hall, at Fort Benning. About 1,500 people, including soldiers, Department of the Army civilians and their families, are expected to attend the one-day event.

More than 80 employers have committed to participate. They include: Total Systems, Synovus, AFLAC, Callaway Gardens, South Trust Bank, Intermet, Troops-to-Teachers programs for Georgia and South Carolina, Wackenhut Corp., Medi-Dyn, Inc. of Colorado, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Cessna Aircraft, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, along with several transportation and trucking companies, temporary employment agencies, medical facilities and numerous police and law enforcement agencies from across the country.

Personnel of the labor department will be on hand to answer questions about career counseling or employment services available through the agency.
