LABOR DEPARTMENT'S FIRST JOB LINE GOES ONLINE IN BRUNSWICK

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor's Brunswick office and the SeaCoast Workforce Development Board of Savannah have joined forces to establish the department's first telephone job line to better serve employers and job seekers in Glynn and McIntosh counties.

The 24-hour job line -- 912-280-6872 -- is the brainchild of Hazel Fagan, an employment service specialist in the department's Brunswick office. "We're very proud of the new job line," she says, "especially since it's the first of its kind for the Georgia Department of Labor." Ms. Fagan has drawn the praise of her office supervisor, Roger Davis, for spear-heading the project. "She took it, and ran with it," he said.

Ms. Fagan's is the voice on the recorded message heard over the phone when people call in for a listing of local jobs. She also reminds callers who are Internet-active that they may access a list of jobs at the labor department's Web site address at www.dol.state.ga.us

The job line began in mid-December and is getting about 50 calls a week. When people call the job line, Ms. Fagan instructs them to press the number 20 on their telephone for job listings in the clerical, professional and sales fields, 30 for food service and lodging, 40 for the skilled trades, laborers, and manufacturing, and 50 for drivers and equipment operators.

Ms. Fagan then lists the title and brief description of the jobs available in the area, salary, requirements, and hours, along with a job order number. All callers must take the job order number and apply in person at the Brunswick office at 2517 Tara Lane. Office hours are 7 a.m.- 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Fridays. There applicants are registered for employment services, screened for employers, and referred to jobs.
