STATE LABOR DEPARTMENT TO OPEN PART-TIME OFFICE IN BLAKELY ON OCT. 7

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor will open a part-time office in Blakely on Thursday, Oct. 7, that will provide a wide-range of services to job seekers and employers in the Early County area. The office will be operated as a branch of the department's Bainbridge office, which is managed by Emory C. Virgil.

"We want to make our services more convenient and user-friendly to the people of Blakely and Early County," said Virgil, "and, in order to do this, we need to have a presence there. We're excited about being able to take our services to our customers, so that they won't have to drive to Bainbridge to receive assistance."

The Blakely office, which will be open on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be located at the Early County Department of Family and Children Services office on Columbia Road. Joann Murphy of Donalsonville and Sylvia Washington of Bainbridge will staff the new unit.

The office will provide information on job training, take unemployment insurance claims, offer workshops on how to find a job, provide job counseling and make job referrals to employers.

In addition to Early, the Bainbridge office serves Decatur, Miller and Seminole counties. Last year, the office served almost 5,500 people. Emory says the labor department will also open parttime offices in Colquitt and Donalsonville next month.

Job listings, locations of local offices and a wealth of information is available on the Georgia Department of Labor's web site at www.dol.state.ga.us.
