STATE LABOR DEPARTMENT TO OPEN PART-TIME OFFICE IN COLQUITT ON OCT. 6
ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor will open a part-time office in Colquitt on Wednesday, Oct. 6, that will provide a wide-range of services to job seekers and employers in the Miller County area. The office will be operated as a branch of the department's Bainbridge office, which is managed by Emory C. Virgil.
"We want to make our services more convenient and user-friendly to the people of Colquitt and Miller County," said Virgil, "and, in order to do this, we need to have a presence there. We're excited about being able to take our services to our customers, so that they won't have to drive to Bainbridge to receive assistance."
The Colquitt office, which will be open on Wednesdays from 1-3:30 p.m., will be located at the Miller County Chamber of Commerce office on First Street. Joann Murphy of Donalsonville and Sylvia Washington of Bainbridge will staff the new unit.
The office will provide information on job training, take unemployment insurance claims, offer workshops on how to find a job, provide job counseling and make job referrals to employers.
In addition to Miller, the Bainbridge office serves Decatur, Early and Seminole counties. Last year, the office served almost 5,500 people. Emory says the labor department will also open parttime offices in Blakely and Donalsonville next month.
Job listings, locations of local offices and a wealth of information is available on the Georgia Department of Labor's web site at www.dol.state.ga.us.
