LABOR DEPARTMENT TO HOLD JOB FAIR FOR HERMAN MILLER

ON MONDAY, JULY 12, IN MARIETTA; JOBS TO BE IN CHEROKEE

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor and Staffmark Personnel Services will co-sponsor a job fair Monday to fill about 200 job openings for office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller, the Zeeland, Michiganbased company credited with inventing the office cubicle.

The job fair will be held from 2-7 p.m. at the labor department's Cobb-Cherokee office at 465 Big Shanty Road in Marietta.

The jobs will be in a new 330,000-square-foot facility now under construction on Technology Ridge in Cherokee County. At the new facility, located on a 70-acre site off Old Highway 5 at Exit 12 on Interstate 575 in Canton, office furniture will be manufactured and assembled using laser technology and robotics. The first phase of production is set to begin in late August.

Job openings include production assemblers, warehouse loaders, forklift drivers, welders and machine operators. Salaries range from $8.25-$11 an hour. Applicants should bring their work history or resume and be prepared to interview.

In addition to 200 new hires, the company will draw the remainder of its 700-member work force from its consolidated operations in Norcross, Roswell and Stone Mountain.

For more information or directions to the job fair, call the labor department's Cobb-Cherokee office at (770) 528-6100.
