GEORGIA WELFARE-TO-WORK PLAN AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW AND COMMENT
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the state's amended Welfare-to-Work Plan is available for review and comment. Input from the public is sought.
The plan was developed by a collaborative team comprised of labor, social services, education and workforce development representatives, which seeks to move long-term public assistance recipients into jobs.
"This plan represents Georgia's new approach in workforce development planning," said Thurmond. "This approach will continue as our workforce development system evolves and requirements of the Workforce Investment Act are addressed. The focus is to ensure the system provides Georgia's employers with a well-qualified labor force and individuals with easy access to jobs and training. Under this new system, customer service is the top priority."
The plan is available on the Georgia Department of Labor's web site (www.dol.state.ga.us) and a summary of the plan is available in the offices of the labor department, Private Industry Councils, Family and Children Services (DFACS) and technical institutes throughout the state. Copies may be obtained by calling the labor department's Job Training Division at (404) 656-7392.
