LABOR DEPARTMENT'S BRUNSWICK OFFICE FIRST IN STATE TO EXPAND ITS HOURS OF OPERATION TO BETTER SERVE EMPLOYERS AND JOB SEEKERS

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Brunswick office has become the department's first in the state to expand its hours of operation to better serve employers and job-seekers alike. The office serves the residents of Glynn and McIntosh counties.

Through September, the office at 2517 Tara Lane will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. This replaces the long-standing schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"We're able to expand our office hours without additional staff, overtime or employee workload by using flex-time schedules," said Ronnie Bivins, manager of the Brunswick office.

The extended hours will allow customers, especially those whose work schedules correspond with the office's normal operating schedule, more opportunities to use the department's services.

"We have to base our decisions about office hours on what's best for our customers," said Francis Mangham, assistant commissioner for field services. "I predict that our other offices will also move to non-traditional hours in the coming months."

The Brunswick office is a regional one-stop office that provides resources for youth, seniors and people receiving public assistance or rehabilitation services. It also provides on-the-job training programs, veterans services and the federal bonding program.
