LABOR DEPARTMENT POSTERS AND LAY-OFF NOTICES NOW
AVAILABLE TO GEORGIA EMPLOYERS ON INTERNET
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that Georgia employers
who need to file unemployment insurance claims for laid-off workers and display work-related posters at job sites may now receive the necessary forms and posters via the Internet. The forms and posters have been online for a month and more than 140 employers have used the new service.
Currently, the vast majority of the forms and posters are mailed to Georgia employers at an estimated cost to the taxpayers of $40,000 a year. Employers also have the option of picking up these items at department offices throughout the state. Georgia has about 185,000 employers.
"This is one more example of our continuing efforts to improve service to employers and save public funds," said Thurmond. "This new service means that employers will get their posters and forms much faster, and when they do so, the department will save on printing and postage. We encourage employers to use this new Internet service."
The forms and posters may be downloaded by accessing the department's Web site at www.dol. state.ga.us and clicking on the Unemployment Insurance link.
Posters required to be displayed at work sites include: unemployment insurance for employees, equal pay for equal work, and vacation information. These are published in both English and Spanish. Other information that may be downloaded are summary sheets of child labor laws and separation notices that employers fill out for laid-off workers.

Georgia Department of Labor - Press Release
The department's 800 form is the standard separation notice that employers issue laid-off workers so they may file for unemployment insurance benefits, while the 402 form is a mass separation notice for at least 25 laid-off workers. The 8498 form is an application to file a low earnings report for workers who have been temporarily laid off. However, before employers can file lowearnings reports (408 form) for their workers, they must call the department's partial claims unit at (404) 656-2991 and obtain a password. No individual claimant may file for unemployment insurance benefits via the Internet.
