GPTV'S SUCCESS TRACK TO SPOTLIGHT GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR'S NEW INNOVATIVE SYSTEM OF PROVIDING LOCALIZED SERVICE
ATLANTA - State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's innovative new system of delivering localized services to jobseekers and employers will be spotlighted on Success Track, Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 7:30 p.m. on Georgia Public Television (GPTV). The show will repeat Monday, Dec. 27, at 11:30 p.m.
The special episode of Success Track was videotaped during the recent Georgia Workforce Conference in Atlanta, which is the largest workforce conference ever held in the United States. More than 2,000 career development personnel from the public and private sectors attended the conference.
The program will explain how the labor department is working to build a world-class workforce. Viewers will be given a video tour of a prototype of the department's innovative workforce center, which represents the future of providing jobseekers and employers in Georgia with customerfocused localized services.
Host Gerald Bryant travels to impoverished Hancock County where the labor department is teaming up with local artists and area leaders to paint a new picture of jobs and prosperity. Some of the Hancock County artists were featured at the conference.
The program will also include comments from Gov. Roy Barnes, Sen. Max Cleland, Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor, Thurmond, Toussaint Hayes, regional administrator of the U.S. Department of Labor, Dr. Edward Irons of Clark Atlanta University, and noted economist Donald Ratajczak. The future of education and job training will be discussed by State School Superintendent Linda Schrenko, Ken Breeden, commissioner of the state department of technical and adult education,

Stephen Portch, chancellor of the University System of Georgia, and Otis Brumby, chairman of the state school board.
Career development experts will also discuss a variety of employment topics, including employment of people with disabilities.
The Emmy Award-winning Success Track is a weekly program co-produced by the Georgia Department of Labor and GPTV. Now in its seventh season, Success Track is seen Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Mondays at 11:30 p.m over the nine-station GPTV network.
