ONE-STOP FEDERAL FUNDS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE LABOR DEPARTMENT TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND OTHER AGENCIES
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that non-profit and other organizations may apply with the Georgia Department of Labor for grants under the state's onestop initiative, which is designed to better serve employers and job seekers alike. The funds must be used to help an organization connect to the state's electronic workforce development infrastructure, which is already operational.
Any state or local government agency, or any non-profit organization involved in the delivery of human services or workforce services to its community, is eligible to apply for the grants, the commissioner said.
The availability of these additional federal funds will provide an opportunity to expand the service network more deeply into local communities. This will ensure that services reach those most interested in them, whether they are individuals or businesses. It will also allow local partnerships to be broadened beyond those programs required by the original one-stop initiative. Internet connections, more web-based products, and customer self-service capabilities are important elements of this technological expansion.

The funds have been used primarily in two ways: to create an electronic infrastructure which will enable those involved in workforce development to exchange information and enable customers to more readily access services through a "no wrong door" approach to service delivery. Secondly, funds have been available to local collaboratives involving, at a minimum, the partners required by federal grants from Employment Service,
