LABOR DEPARTMENT'S NORTH METRO ATLANTA OFFICE TO EXPAND ITS

HOURS OF OPERATION TO BETTER SERVE EMPLOYERS AND JOB SEEKERS

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's North Metro Atlanta office plans to expand its hours of operation, beginning next week, to better serve employers and job-seekers alike. The office serves the residents of the northern portions of Fulton and DeKalb counties.

"We need to make it easier and more convenient for our customers to utilize our services," said Thurmond, "and expanding our office hours is one way to do it. Many of our customers, such as employers and people who work during regular day-time hours will especially benefit from our new office schedule."

The new schedule for the office, located in the Toco Hills Shopping Center at 2943 North Druid Hills Road in northeast Atlanta, will be from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a. m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. These new hours replace the office's long-standing schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"We're able to expand our office hours without additional staff, overtime or employee workload by using flex-time schedules," said Cheryl Winters, manager of the North Metro office. "The new hours of operation are a part of our ongoing efforts to provide services to a greater range of job seekers and employers. Many of our customers are either currently employed or spending the majority of the business day interviewing with prospective employers. Our new hours will allow these customers to utilize our many services without interfering with their ability to perform in their current job or conduct job search activities during normal business hours. It will also allow us to better serve our employer community by providing more opportunities for recruitment."
