MORE EX-SERVICE PERSONNEL MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR U.I. BENEFITS

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today the U.S. Department of Labor has issued new guidelines for ex-service personnel of the U.S. Armed Forces to draw unemployment insurance compensation.

The new guidelines apply only to former military personnel who filed their first claim for jobless benefits on or after Nov. 10, 1998, and were declared ineligible.

Ex-service personnel who were declared ineligible have until Feb. 28 to reapply for the unemployment insurance compensation. They may reapply at any one of 52 Georgia Department of Labor offices statewide.

Jobless benefits for ex-service personnel are paid out of a federal trust fund.
