STATE RECEIVES $17.8 MILLION GRANT FOR SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton said today the Georgia Department of Labor has received a $17.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help about 9,800 economically disadvantaged young people find work this summer.

The grant is for the state's Summer Youth Employment and Training Program (SYETP), a part of the national Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) program.

"In addition to receiving valuable work experience, these young people will be able to contribute to their families' income, earn spending money for themselves and provide an estimated $45 million overall economic impact to the state," said Fullerton.

Most of the jobs are at public facilities, such as recreational aids at state parks, clerks, food service and maintenance workers at government buildings, and helpers in local schools.
