HOWARD NAMED ACTING DIRECTOR OF TRAINING AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT FOR GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton has named Ashley Howard of Cherokee County acting director of training and staff development for the Georgia Department of Labor.
"Ashley Howard has a strong background in training, in fact, she's one of the best classroom trainers I've ever seen," said Fullerton. "For the last seven years, she's done an excellent job training our staff throughout the state. Her commitment to her profession is exemplary. I'm confident that Ashley will do a superb job directing the training activities of our department."
In her new position, Howard, 34, has the overall responsibility of directing and administering the training programs for 1,800 state labor department employees. She also is responsible for the department's leadership training program, Executive Commitment to Excellence in Leadership (EXCEL), a coordinated effort with the University of Georgia's Institute of Government. Howard was a member of the 1994 EXCEL class.
A native Atlantan, Ms. Howard has lived and studied in Valencia, Spain; London, England; and Athens, Greece. She graduated from Druid Hills High School in Atlanta and holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Georgia in Athens.
Prior to joining the labor department's staff training office in 1991, Ms. Howard was a corporate trainer for six years with the now-defunct Eastern Airlines. With the labor department, she has served as a senior training coordinator and associate director of training and quality.
Ms. Howard is a member of the Atlanta Society of Training and Development and the Quality Service Georgia Network.
She lives in Woodstock with her husband, Charles B. Howard, a native of Forest Park. The couple has one daughter, Austin, 11.
