FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PEETZ NAMED ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER
OF THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton has named John Douglas (Doug) Peetz of Gwinnett County assistant commissioner of finance, budget and contracts for the Georgia Department of Labor.
He is responsible for all of the financial operations of the department, which includes the agency's general financial records, unemployment insurance fund control, payroll, budget and contract administration.
"For the past 21 years, Doug has worked in the state auditor's office, and for part of that time, he was the lead auditor of the labor department's financial records," said Fullerton. "So, he knows the financial situation of this agency very well, and will be able to make a significant contribution to the continued financial well-being of this department."
A native of Pascagoula, Miss., Peetz, 45, attended the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg for two years before transferring to Valdosta State University where he earned a bachelor of business administration degree in finance in 1976.
After graduating from college, he joined the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, the agency that audits the financial records of state governmental agencies. He rose through the ranks of that agency, and from 1987-1990 was the lead auditor of the labor department's records. In 1991, he was named an audit supervisor and was manager over the audit of the labor department and several other state agencies for seven years. He held that position until his recent appointment.
Peetz is a member of the American Water Ski Association (AWSA), a governing body that oversees amateur water ski tournaments nationally. AWSA membership is comprised of about 15,000 amateur water skiers throughout the country. Peetz is a nationally ranked water skier in his age group. Other hobbies include golf and auto racing. He has attended the Indy 500 in Indianapolis, Ind., for the past 17 years.
Peetz lives in Lilburn. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Peetz, still reside in Pascagoula, Miss.
