FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHATTAHOOCHEE-FLINT'S JOBLESS RATE UNCHANGED AT 4.2 PERCENT

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton said today that the unemployment rate in the Chattahoochee-Flint area remained unchanged at 4.2 percent from January to February, but is down from 4.7 percent in February 1997.
"While the area had about 850 more residents working, another 100 entered the job market looking for work," Fullerton said. "They were unable to land a job right away, and while they are searching, they are counted as being unemployed. However, with the arrival of Spring, more seasonal jobs will be available, which will make it easier for them to find work."
The area's civilian labor force, which is the number of people working plus those unemployed but actively looking for a job, totaled 124,481. Of that number, 119,237 had jobs and 5,244 did not.

Georgia's unemployment rate rose to 4.1 percent in February, up from 3.8 percent in January, but down from 4.8 percent in February 1997.

Labor market data are now available on the Georgia Department of Labor web site at www.dol.state.ga.us
