LABOR DEPARTMENT SETS UP NEW OFFICE AT FLINT RIVER TECH
ATLANTA -- As part of a cooperative effort between three state agencies, the Georgia Department of Labor's Griffin office will set up a part-time office this month at Flint River Tech in Thomaston to better serve area employers and job seekers alike in the McIntosh Trail region.
"We are pleased with the establishment of this new office, and want to thank President Carlos Schmitt for helping us to make it possible," said State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton. "This is just a part of our statewide collaborative partnership between the departments of labor, technical and adult education, and family and children's services. Our goal is to create a cohesive system of services to reduce duplication between departments, to meet our work force needs, and to assist people in becoming employed."
The collaborative plan was developed by a 10-member interagency work group composed of managers from the state and local levels. A part of the plan is to provide employment-related services to 58,000 public assistance recipients, with at least 18,000 placed in jobs.
"We're looking forward to working with Dr. Schmitt and Vice-President Walter Swift and their staff in helping employers in the area fill their job needs with qualified applicants and helping job seekers find good jobs," said Fletcher Dunn, manager of the Griffin office. "We will draw our applicants from a labor pool consisting of veterans, students and other citizens from the area." The region includes Butts, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, Upson and surrounding counties.
At Flint River Tech, the part-time office will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning March 12. It will be staffed by employees of the Griffin office. Roland Moeller will work the first and third Thursdays each month to receive employer job orders and to help area veterans find jobs. On the second and fourth Thursdays, Genia Hunton, Delacey Wilkins or Dot Mincey will receive job requests and help Tech students and other job seekers find work. The office telephone number is (706) 646-6233. In Griffin, the office number is (770) 228-7226.
