POYTHRESS RETURNS ALMOST $100,000 TO GEORGIA TAXPAYERS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner David Poythress said today the Georgia Department of Labor is returning almost $100,000 to the state's taxpayers.
As of June 30, 1997, the last day of the state's FY-97 budget year, the labor department was $98,942.74 under budget. Poythress said the savings is being turned over to the Office of Planning and Budget's Treasury and Fiscal Services Division.
"We were able to cut administrative expenses in several areas," said Poythress. "By watching where the individual dollars are spent, we were able to save thousands of dollars overall. This is just the same kind of budget control we all use to keep our personal budgets balanced and save money in the process."
The Georgia Department of Labor had state funding of $19,628,869 in FY-97. It receives the bulk of it's funding from the federal government.
