FEATURED LOCATION: Okefenokee Swamp
Photo: Okefenokee Swamp
Located in southeast Georgia, the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1937 to protect the 438,000acre Okefenokee Swamp. The swamp remains one of the oldest and most well preserved freshwater areas in America and extends 38 miles north to south and 25 miles east to west.
Okefenokee is a vast bog inside a huge, saucer-shaped depression that was once part of the ocean floor. "Okefenokee" is the white man's rendition of the Indian words meaning "Land of the Trembling Earth." The swamp contains numerous islands and lakes, along with vast areas of non-forested terrain. Prairies cover about 60,000 acres of the swamp.

Elevating Big Mouth
Photo: Uniroyal project
Big Mouth Post recently changed its name to Elevation.
Commenting on the name change, composer and coowner John Lambert said, "As we've grown over the past seven years, we felt the name Big Mouth did not continue to accurately define what we do or how well we do it. We were drawn to the name "Elevation" because of its meaning: to lift up, raise and improve. These words encompass the spirit of our work on every project." Creative director and co-owner Stephen Cocks added, "We strive to elevate our clients' work, not only to create an amazing finished product, but to provide inspiration along the way. The name Elevation better reflects the quality of our work and our desire to exceed our client's expectations." Elevation completed two 30-second spots for Uniroyal's Hispanic market for Erwin-Penland. The spots feature John Lambert's new arrangements of the Mexican folk song "El Rey." Recorded at the Hit Factory in Miami, Lambert, along with Ed Calle, directed a wide range of musicians recording "salsa" and "mariachi" arrangements of the popular song. Elevation also handled film transfer, editorial and conforming of the spots. Samples of Elevation's work can be found at www.elevate.tv.

Sam Arlen asked Horst to write arrangements for three of his father's songs, "Stormy Weather," "It's Only a Paper Moon," and "I've Got the World on a String," for an album Arlen plans to produce later this year in honor of his father's 100th birthday.

being set in 1986, they looked for a city that not only had locations that could look period, but also contained high schools that resembled the classic architecture of northeastern schools.
"We looked at a couple hundred high schools in seven or eight different states," explains Koules. "We had to find a school that looked like it belonged in Rhode Island since the characters come from Rhode Island. We found our ideal school in Atlanta."
"There are two reasons I decided to shoot in Atlanta," adds Miller. "One is I'm blessed with an incredible executive producer in Carl Mazzocone, who has introduced me to a lot of great local crew people and the other is during the winter months, Atlanta has crisp light and beautiful blue skies which allowed me to infuse the film with a real saturated colored look that I wanted."
