HIV/AIDS AND THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
THE LAW: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects people with disabilities from discrimination by public or private employers, programs and contractors, or places of public accommodation. This includes people who have HIV/AIDS or are suspected of having HIV/AIDS. If you believe you have been discriminated against because you have HIV or AIDS, you may call the following numbers for information or help.
LEGAL ASSISTANCE Atlanta Legal Aid Society's primary function is to provide referrals and legal representation to people who otherwise cannot obtain access to the court system the poor, minorities, the elderly, those disabled by mental illness or long term diseases and recent immigrants. DAY CARE If you believe your child was refused admission to a daycare center because he or she has HIV or AIDS, call the Department of Justice (phone number and website below). PUBLIC ACCOMMODATIONS If you think any public accommodations, such as restaurants, gymnasiums or hotels, have refused service to you because you have HIV or AIDS, call the Department of Justice (phone number and website below).
