Georgia gets additional funds to help needed with soaring heating bills
President Clinton has released additional emergency heating funds to the state of Georgia to assist low-income households in coping with high fuel prices this winter. Georgia is expecting to receive an additional $3 million, which will increase its total to nearly $25 million. These funds will help the Georgia Department of Human Resources extend its energy assistance program to serve more Georgians.
DHR will administer the funds under contracts with the Community Action Agencies statewide.
To participate in the program, the household's income must meet an annual gross amount equal to, or less than 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. For a one-person household, that would be $12,525; for two persons $16,875; for three persons $21,225; for four persons $25,575; for five persons $29,925; for six persons $34,275; for seven persons $38,625; and for eight or more persons $42,975.
Help will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, qualified applicants should contact their local Community Action Agency or the Division of Family and Children Services at 1-800-869-1150 outside the Atlanta area, or 404-657-3426 locally.
