The opportunity to hear the first-person account of a Holocaust survivor is often a once in a lifetime experience. Join us on January 27 as we commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day and Hershel Greenblat shares his story.
Hershel Greenblat was born in the Ukraine in 1941. The first two years of his life were spent hiding in a cave. When the German invasion of the Soviet Union began, Hershel's parents moved frequently to avoid capture. Life for Hershel and his family changed dramatically when they were transported to American controlled Austria. They lived in displaced persons camps for five years before receiving permission to immigrate to the U.S. They settled in Atlanta and Hershel's father opened a grocery store in the Buttermilk Bottom neighborhood.
