On this day: April 1945
January through May of this year marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Europe from WWII. As Allied troops moved across Europe in their fight against Nazi Germany, they began to encounter camps established by the Nazis ranging in purpose from transit and internment to forced labor and death. With the liberation of Auschwitz in January 1945, through Germany's surrender in May, the full extent of the Holocaust began to become clear.

Anne Frank's Last Months
It has been 70 years since Anne Frank and her sister, Margot, died of typhus at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The Red Cross initially concluded at the time that her date of death was between the 1st and 31st of March, 1945. However, new research by the Anne Frank House reveals that it is unlikely the Frank sisters were still alive in March. Click here to learn more.
