Welcome to the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and Anne Frank in the World e-newsletter. Updates on upcoming events, programs, and opportunities right to your inbox! Here is what is new:
Women's History Month

Millions of women were persecuted and murdered during the Holocaust era. Through their important roles in society and their community -- including but not limited to mothers, daughters, wives, teachers, physicians -- women responded to Nazi oppression in various ways.
Join the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust in honoring and commemorating the women who confronted the Holocaust with resilience, resourcefulness and courage.
Follow us on Twitter @holocaustgagov or @AFintheWorld for daily tweets featuring stories of women who resisted, survived, saved lives, and participated in acts of unwavering humanity.
Visitors to the Commission-sponsored Anne Frank in the World will receive an ID card telling the story of a real woman who lived during the Holocaust to accompany a self-guided tour through the exhibit.

On this Day: March 1945
Anne Frank and her sister, Margot, are at Bergen-Belsen. They were deported from Auschwitz at the end of October, 1944. Their mother, Edith, died in January but their father, Otto, is in the infirmary at Auschwitz. The sisters do not know he is alive.

Conditions at Bergen-Belsen are terrible.Through late 1944 and early 1945, as the Allied and Soviet forces continue to advance into Germany, Bergen-Belsen became a collection camp for thousands of prisoners evacuated from camps closer to the front. As the population rises and conditions worsen, disease begins to spread rapidly and the death toll in turn rises.
