On This Day: December 1943
The inhabitants of the Secret Annex exchange gifts
Anne, the Frank family, the Van Pels family, and Fritz Pfeffer have been hiding in "het achterhuis the Secret Annex" in Amsterdam for over a year. The holiday season officially began in the Netherlands with 'sinterklaasavond' (Sinterklaas evening) the night when Sinterklaas leaves a sack of presents on the doorstep before heading back to Spain. Anne writes in her diary how "it would be terrible to skip a celebration this year"

Governor Deal swears in five to Holocaust Commission board
Five members were sworn into the board of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, after their appointments were announced in October by Governor Nathan Deal. Joining the Commission are Chuck Berk, Dr. Claire D'Agostino (reappointment), Evan Jacobs, Sara Kogon, and Lisa Olens. Dr. Agostino was appointed chair.

1/14-15 FREE Educator Workshop - Thomasville, GA
The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust, in cooperation with Thomas County Schools, presents a free two-day professional development workshop for educators. The workshop is free of charge and includes books and resources from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Reimbursement for substitute pay is available. 2016 Creative Arts Student Contest

Distinguished Educator of 2016
The Distinguished Educator award is presented to a full-time Georgia educator of grades 512. Applications must be submitted by April 5, 2016. The official presentation of the award will take place on May 6, 2016, at the State Capitol. The winner will also receive statewide recognition, a plaque and a $500 stipend for educational materials.Click here for details.
