Grand Re-Opening of Anne Frank in the World
9 APRIL 2013 - Mayor Eva Galambos hosted a ribbon cutting at the exhibit on April 9th, 2013, at 1:00pm. "The City of Sandy Springs is fortunate to have one of the most important and largest Anne Frank collections in the nation," said Mayor Galambos. "Since its opening in 2010, the exhibit has educated visitors from 27 states and a number of foreign countries. I am honored that the City will continue to serve as home to this important exhibit."
Michael Altman, chair of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust commented, "I want to thank Mayor Galambos for her leadership and vision to host such an important exhibit and the City of Sandy Springs for their continued support of Anne Frank in the World."
5/19/13 1pm Sunday Matinee: One Survivor Remembers
(The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum) Through a series of interviews, photographs and footage shot in the actual locations of her memories, Gerda Weissmann Klein recounts her six-year ordeal as a victim of Nazi cruelty, including the loss of her parents, brother, friends, home, possessions, and community. "No Place on Earth" returns to Atlanta
This moving documentary, originally screened at the 2013 Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, brings to light the untold story of thirty-eight Ukrainian Jews who survived World War II by living in caves for eighteen months, the longest-recorded sustained underground survival. Built upon interviews with former cave inhabitants, as well as Chris Nicola, the caving enthusiast who unearthed the story, "No Place on Earth" is an extraordinary testament to ingenuity, willpower and endurance against all odds. "Defiant Requiem" on PBS
Led by conductor Raphael Schchter, a chorus of 150 inmates of Terezin concentration camp performed one of the world's most difficult and powerful choral works, Verdi's Requiem, a Catholic work re-imagined as a condemnation of their captors. Six decades later, conductor Murry Sidlin and a new choir take Verdi's Requiem back to Terezin to reawaken this little known chapter of heroism and the resilience of the human spirit.
