Exhibit featuring life of Slovak girl during Holocaust comes to Sandy Springs
The exhibit, "In Her Father's Eyes: A Slovak Childhood in the Shadow of the Holocaust", is currently on display at Anne Frank in the World: 19291945 and will remain on view through April 3rd, 2013. The exhibit was curated through the unique partnership between Kennesaw State, the University of Tennessee Knoxville and Youngstown (Ohio) University. It chronicles the life of Kitty Weichherz, who lived thirteen years before she and her parents were put to death in the Nazi Sobibr concentration camp in Poland. Read more... Holocaust Learning Trunk Project Launched at White County Middle School
15 FEBRUARY 2013 - The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and the Georgia Department of Education launched the Holocaust Learning Trunk Project to the White County School District. A trunk was presented at White County Middle School and is now available to all middle schools in the White and Habersham districts. Read more...
General Weiskircher honored with Outstanding Citizenship Award
General Russel R. Weiskircher was honored by Representative Terry Rogers and Senator Steve Gooch with Georgia's Outstanding Citizen Award signed by Secretary of State Brian Kemp. General Weiskircher cites his role as one of the first American liberators of the infamous Dachau concentration camp in 1944 as one of his most memorable experiences. Read more...
