Governor Deal Announces Innovation Fund Discover, Design, Develop (D3) Schools Grant Project
The Innovation Fund is pleased to announce the Discover, Design, Develop (D3) Schools Project a new grant opportunity which targets schools on the Turnaround Eligible Schools List, as well as high-need, rural schools and districts. The D3 Schools Grant Project will take selected schools and districts through a year-long, GOSA-facilitated, strategic planning process where they will create a program or project that effectively targets their school or district's most urgent need. Participating schools and districts will receive:
An $8,000 grant to support participation in the D3 Schools Project planning process, Ongoing support and coaching from GOSA staff, and The opportunity to apply for up to $20,000 to pilot the program they developed during the D3 Schools Project. The D3 Schools Project Grant mandatory technical assistance webinar and application will open on March 30, 2018. Applications are due on May 3, 2018. Qualified Education Donation Tax Credit Since January 2, 2018, the Qualified Education Donation Tax Credit has allowed individuals and corporations to support Georgia's schools by donating to the Innovation Fund Foundation, Inc. (IFF). Individuals and corporations that donate will receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit (not just a deduction) on their state income taxes, subject to availability. The IFF is authorized to receive up to $5 million through this tax credit. The IFF will use donated funds to provide grants to public schools in Georgia, with a priority on schools identified in the bottom 5% of performance. The Innovation Fund Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation authorized pursuant to O.C.G.A. 20-14-26.1. The Foundation supports the work of GOSA in planning, implementing, or scaling innovative education programs. GOSA Releases Evaluation Report on Early Education Empowerment Zones GOSA recently released the biannual evaluation report of the Early Education Empowerment Zones (E3Zs). The purpose of the E3Z initiative is to increase the availability of high-quality early learning and development options and to integrate new or expanded services into high-quality child care programs focused on children with high needs. Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) announced the first four Race to the Top - Early Learning Challenge grant E3Zs in September 2014. The four E3Zs are the E3Z North (Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Gordon, and Gilmore Counties), the Clarke E3Z (Clarke County), the Bibb E3Z (Bibb County), and the South Georgia E3Z (Colquitt, Cook, Brooks, Lowndes, and Echols Counties). The biannual report summarizes E3Z grant activities in the E3Zs from July through December 2017, communicates the details of implementation, and identifies the key practices needed to sustain the E3Z work.
