December 2017 Monthly Update
Apply for an Innovation Fund Tiny Grant Do you have an innnovative idea that you would like to implement for your students, but need funds in order to do so? This winter, apply for an Innovation Fund Tiny Grant through the Governor's Office of Student Achievement. Applications for this cycle are due by January 15, 2018, and applicants will be notified by mid-February. Tiny Grants range from $1,000 to $7,000 to support an innovative project that deeply engages students. Tiny Grants are available to traditional public schools, charter schools, and school districts. Grants must align with one of the following priority areas:
Applied Learning with a Focus on STEAM Education, Development and Replication of Blended Learning School Models, or Birth to Age Eight Language and Literacy Development. GOSA Updates Report Card with 2017 Data On November 29, GOSA released the 2016-2017 Report Card. The annual Report Card contains test results as well as other information relevant to school performance. GOSA collects data from the Georgia Department of Education and other entities to provide a comprehensive view of schools, systems, and the state. The Report Card includes school-, system-, and state-level reports organized into six major sections:
Accountability Current Georgia Assessments Retired Georgia Assessments National Tests Indicators & Demographics Personnel & Fiscal Downloadable school- and district-level files for the Report Card elements are available on the GOSA Downloadable Data page. GOSA Releases Evaluation Report on Georgia's Early Education Empowerment Zones GOSA recently released the biannual evaluation report of the Early Education Empowerment Zones (E3Zs). The purpose of the E3Z initiative is to increase the availability of high-quality early learning and development options and to integrate new or expanded services into high-quality child care programs focused on children with high needs. Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) announced four sites to become the first Race to the Top - Early Learning Challenge grant E3Zs in September 2014. The four E3Zs are the E3Z North (Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Gordon, and Gilmore Counties), the Clarke E3Z (Clarke County), the Bibb E3Z (Bibb County), and the South Georgia E3Z (Colquitt, Cook, Brooks, Lowndes, and Echols Counties). The biannual report summarizes grant activities in the E3Zs from January through June 2017, details major accomplishments and challenges within the E3Zs, and identifies next steps planned within the zones.
