GOSA Announces a New Grant Opportunity The Innovation Fund Tiny Grant Program!
Governor Nathan Deal recently released the details of the Innovation Fund Tiny Grant program, a competitive grant opportunity for traditional public schools, charter schools, and school districts. Here are the details of the program:
What is a Tiny Grant?
Tiny grants will provide traditional public schools, charter schools, and school districts between $1,000 and $10,000 to implement an innovative project that will deeply engage students. An innovative project solves an existing problem in an inventive way and has the potential to have a large and lasting impact on the academic environment. GOSA will accept applications on a rolling basis and review those applications four times throughout the year. Tiny Grant-funded programs or projects must align with one of the following priority areas:
Applied Learning with a Focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education; Development and Replication of Blended Learning School Models; or Birth to Age Eight Language and Literacy Development.
Who is eligible to apply?
You are eligible to participate in the Tiny Grant program if:
You are a school administrator, principal, or instructional coach at a charter school or traditional public school in the state of Georgia; You are a K-12 teacher at a Georgia charter school or traditional public school who has been teaching for at least three years; or

In addition, GOSA provides policy support to the Governor and, ultimately, to the citizens of Georgia.

You are another type of leadership-level administrator in a Georgia Local Education Agency (school district).
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. All applications received by February 1st will be reviewed by the end of February.

Innovation in Teaching Spotlight
Tara Dougherty

Collaborative Literacy Stations
The Innovation in Teaching Competition recognizes and awards Georgia educators who are using innovative strategies to advance student achievement. Kingsley Charter Elementary School teacher, Tara Dougherty, gets her first graders out of their seats in her integrated unit plan called "Collaborative Literacy Stations". The plan implements four literacy stations to differentiate instruction and engage students in ELA,

GOSA Releases 2016 GHP Annual Report
GOSA released the 2016 annual report for the Governor's Honors Program (GHP). The report provides an overview of the program, describes the programs' impact, and discusses next steps for the program. The GHP is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students. GHP 2017 will be held from June 18 through July 15, 2017 at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

2016 Report Card and Downloadable Data
The 2015-2016 Report Card and downloadable data are now available. As part of its mission, GOSA presents its annual report on Georgia's public education agencies. These reports provide educators, parents, students, and all stakeholders with valuable information on the characteristics and performance of Georgia's public schools.
