March E-Bulletin: REACHing Out to Georgia Students: Georgia's Public-Private Needs-Based Scholarship
REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) is Georgia's first public-private needs-based mentorship and scholarship program. It is an integral tenet of the Complete College Georgia Initiative, which strives to improve college access and completion in Georgia. Launched by Gov. Nathan Deal in February 2012, the REACH program is designed to encourage low-income, academically promising middle and high school students to persist in their education. Students participating in REACH are provided with the academic, social, and financial support needed to graduate from high school, access college, and achieve post-secondary success.
This month's e-bulletin outlines REACH's scholar qualification process, mentorship program, funding, and early outcomes.

The Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) strives to increase student achievement and school completion across Georgia through meaningful, transparent, and objective analysis and communication of statewide data. In addition, GOSA provides policy support to the Governor and, ultimately, to the citizens of Georgia.

Gov. and First Lady Deal Launch Read Across Georgia Month
On March 2nd, Gov. Nathan Deal, First Lady Sandra Deal, and Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) Commissioner Amy Jacobs kicked off Read Across Georgia Month. The campaign supports increased childhood literacy in the state. To promote this goal, First Lady Deal has read to Pre-K students across the state during the month of March; additionally, every student in Georgia's Pre-K program has received a copy of a new book, TJ's Discovery, written by teachers at the Rollins Center for Language and Literacy at the Atlanta Speech School.

2015 Governor's Honors Program Finalists
GOSA recently named 680 finalists and 144 alternates for the 2015 Governor's Honors Program (GHP). GHP is a four-week summer residential program designed to provide gifted high school students with challenging, enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Overall, more than 2,800 Georgia students applied for the program in 2015.
This year's GHP session runs from June 21 through July 18 at Valdosta State University.
