December Monthly Update
Innovation in K-8 Mathematics and/or K-12 Computer Science/Coding Professional Learning Grant award winners.
On December 18, 2015, Governor Nathan Deal announced four Innovation in K-8 Mathematics and/or K-12 Computer Science/Coding Professional Learning Grant award winners. This is a competitive grant program that supports Local Education Agencies (LEAs), Regional Educational Service Agencies (RESAs), and individual schools in improving instruction in the areas of mathematics and Computer Science/coding through the development and implementation of high-quality, innovative professional learning models in one or both of these disciplines.
Each grantee will receive $150,000 to support innovative professional learning programs with the goals of advancing student achievement in mathematics and expanding student access to authentic Computer Science/coding experiences in Georgia. Grantees will evaluate the effectiveness of their programs and submit their findings to the Governor's Office of Student Achievement. The state will use these findings to determine best practices in professional learning in mathematics and computer science/coding.

Update on Digital Learning Task Force
In 2012, Governor Nathan Deal formed the Digital Learning Task Force (DLTF) by executive order to develop a comprehensive strategy to improve student achievement through digital learning in Georgia's K-12 schools. The 2014-2015 Report Card is now available. As part of its mission, GOSA presents its annual report on Georgia's public education agencies. These reports provide educators, parents, students, and all stakeholders with valuable information on the characteristics and performance of Georgia's public schools.

Recommendations for Education Reform Released
On December 15, 2015, the Education Reform Commission (ERC) released its final recommendations to Gov. Nathan Deal. The ERC report consists of recommendations for improvement in the following areas: the school funding formula, teacher recruitment, retention, and compensation, early childhood education, Move on When Ready, and expanding school choice.
