FY 2016 Innovation Fund Grant Award Winners Announced
On October 5, Gov. Deal announced 12 Innovation Fund award winners for fiscal year 2016. The Innovation Fund invests in public education entities that aggressively develop and scale programs that enable Georgia educators to improve student performance and tackle our state's most significant challenges in education. E-bulletin: Measures of Student Poverty
Measuring the impact of poverty or low-income status on educational outcomes is vital for the creation and evaluation of education policy. Historically, student eligibility for free/reducedprice lunch (FRL) served as a proxy for individual student/family income status. However, due to the recent expansion of the National School Lunch Program's Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), FRL is no longer an accurate measure of student income status. This ebulletin provides an evaluation of FRL as a measure of student poverty and discusses alternative measures of student poverty for the purpose of data analysis and policy evaluation.

Early Education Empowerment Zones (E3Zs) Report
GOSA recently published its first evaluation report of the Early Education Empowerment Zones (E3Zs). E3Zs are one of the key projects in Georgia's Race to the TopEarly Learning Challenge (RT3-ELC) grant. The purpose of the E3Zs is to increase the availability of high-quality early learning and development options and to integrate new or expanded services into high-quality child care programs focused on children with high needs, which include children who are low-income, English learners, and children with disabilities or developmental delays.

GHP Volunteer Opportunities
Individuals who are interested in volunteering for the Governor's Honors Program (GHP) may now fill out the GHP interest form to receive updates about volunteering for the GHP interview events, and employment opportunities.
GHP is a residential summer (mid-June to midJuly) program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom. It is designed to provide students with the academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
