Round 4 of Innovation in Teaching Winners Released
On August 1, 2014, Gov. Nathan Deal announced eight winners in round four of the Innovation in Teaching Competition, a recognition and reward opportunity for teachers who demonstrate innovative teaching strategies for the Georgia standards in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. The competition is available through Georgia's Innovation Fund, a competitive grant program.
Each teacher will receive a $2,000 stipend, and each teacher's school will receive a $5,000 grant for implementation of Georgia's instructional standards. In addition, Georgia Public Broadcasting will film the winning educators teaching in their classrooms during the 2014-2015 school year, as well as interview them about how they prepared the featured units.
The eight winners in round four, along with the grade level and subject area(s) of each winning unit, are listed below.

The Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) strives to increase student achievement and school completion across Georgia through meaningful, transparent, and objective analysis and communication of statewide data. In addition, GOSA provides policy support to the Governor and, ultimately, to the citizens of Georgia.
E-Bulletin: Quality Rating for Child Care Providers
This month's e-bulletin focuses on Georgia's Tiered Quality Rating and improvement system for child care providers. Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) launched the statewide Quality Rating system in 2012. As of July 2014, nearly four hundred of Georgia's child care providers have been rated. This ebulletin explains how child care programs become Quality Rated and what this means for parents and education stakeholders in Georgia.

Innovation Fund Grant Application Released
Intent to Apply Due Sept. 12
On August 22, 2014, GOSA posted guidelines for new Innovation Fund Grant Opportunities. The Innovation Fund supports local education authorities, schools, institutions of higher education, and nonprofit organizations in planning, implementing and scaling innovative education programs that advance student achievement throughout Georgia.
GOSA will administer grants for the following four priorities:
Applied Learning with a Focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Education, Development and Replication of Blended Learning School Models, Development and Replication of Innovative Resource Management Models, and Teacher and Leader Induction and Development.
